Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team used a pair of dominant pitching efforts to sweep a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) doubleheader on Saturday from the visiting Wolves of Keuka College at Fighting Tiger Field by scores of 2-1 in 10 innings in the opener and 1-0 in the nightcap. With the wins the Fighting Tigers improve to 5-10 overall on the year with a 2-1 make in NEAC play while the Wolves are now 4-11 overall including a 1-2 record in conference action.
In the opener, with one out and the score tied 1-1 in the bottom of the 10
th inning Fighting Tiger sophomore center fielder
Mitchell Holmes, Dartmouth, Mass., Bristol County Agricultural High School, reached on an error. Cobleskill employed some "old school baseball" by executing a perfect hit-and-run with freshman second baseman
Joseph Ciatto, Patterson, N.Y., Carmel High School, hitting a soft ground ball into right field to advance Holmes to third base. Sophomore shortstop Eddie Garcia, Bronx, N.Y., World Vision High School, then decided the issue ripping a two-strike pitch down the left field line for a walk-off single to give the home team the victory.
Fighting Tiger starting pitcher
Tim Curtis, Slate Hill, Minisink Valley High School, overcame a shaky start to provide Cobleskill with eight strong innings allowing only one unearned run on four hits walking three and striking out four on the afternoon while freshman reliever
Kristopher Bulman, Williamson, N.Y., Williamson High School, recorded the victory to move to 2-1 overall on the season by working two scoreless innings allowing only one hit in eight batters faced.
At the plate for the Orange & Black,
Joseph Ciatto keyed the offensive attack from the lead-off spot going 2-for-5 with a RBI with Eddie Garcia going 1-for-5 in the contest with the game winning RBI.
Mitchell Holmes went 1-for-4 with a double and the winning run scored in the victory and freshman catcher
Felix Pacheco, Bronx, N.Y., James Monroe High School, was 1-for-4 with a run scored.
In the second game, the visiting Wolves fell prey to Fighting Tiger sophomore right hander
Daniel Wade, Jefferson, N.Y., Jefferson High School, who went the distance allowing Keuka only two hits in seven innings while striking out four and walking no one. The crafty righty also recorded six assists on ground ball outs to the mound along with a put out in the contest to even his record at 2-2 on the season.
The lone Cobleskill run in the victory came in the bottom of the fifth inning with two outs when shortstop Eddie Garcia legged out a double into short left field and scored when the next hitter in the batting order, freshman third baseman
Frank Leger, Bronx, N.Y., All Hallows High School, ripped a line drive single into right center field.
Offensively for the home team, Garcia finished the game 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored while Leger was 1-for-2 with a walk and the game winning RBI.
With the doubleheader sweep the Fighting Tigers surpassed their victory total for the entire 2018 campaign while equaling their 2018 NEAC win total.
The Orange & Black will next be in action on Wednesday April 3
rd when they travel to Elmira, N.Y. for a non-league match-up with the Soaring Eagles of Elmira College beginning at 5:00 p.m.
