Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team stepped out of North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play on Wednesday afternoon to take on the Gators of Pinewood Manor College for a solo non-league contest. The Fighting Tigers continued their recent hot hitting downing the visiting Gators by a 14-4 margin. With the victory Cobleskill moves to 8-12 overall on the season while the Gators are now 5-15 on the campaign.
Trailing 2-0 going into the bottom of the third inning the Fighting Tiger offense responded by scoring in each of the next six inning to secure the non-conference win.
The heart of the Cobleskill batting order did the bulk of the damage in the game as junior left fielder
Jayson Maxwell, Newport, N.Y., Notre Dame Senior High School, went 3-for-4 with a home run, a pair of doubles, a walk, two runs scored and three RBI with freshman third baseman
Frank Leger, Bronx, N.Y., All Hallows High School, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and four RBI. Freshman right fielder
Anthony Disla, Bronx, N.Y., Metropolitan Soundview High School, was also an offensive factor in the win going 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and two stolen bases including a steal of home plate.
On the mound, freshman southpaw R.J. Weidman, Latham, N.Y., Shaker High School, recorded the victory going five innings allowing two earned runs on three hits while striking out two and walking two to improve his season record to 1-0 on the year.
Cobleskill will next be in action on Saturday April 13
th when they host the Wildcats of Cazenovia College at Fighting Tiger Field for a NEAC doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. Cobleskill will then travel to Cazenovia on Sunday April 14
th to complete a contractual deal between the two programs for a NEAC solo game tentatively slated to start at 1:00 p.m.
