Lancaster, Pa.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's softball team split a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) road games on Saturday afternoon with the host Chargers of Lancaster Bible College winning the first game 10-1 then losing the second game 6-4. With the split the Fighting Tigers are now 6-8 overall including a 3-1 mark in NEAC action while the Chargers are now 7-13 overall with a 2-4 record in league action.
In the first game Fighting Tiger starting pitcher
Rachel Hall, Greenwich, N.Y., Greenwich High School, won her fourth consecutive start by holding the Chargers to one earned run on six hits over five innings of work striking out seven and walking none to record the victory.
The top of the Fighting Tiger batting order provide the bulk of the offense as freshman second baseman
Alyssa Villielm, Rifton, N.Y., Kingston High School, hitting in the lead-off spot went 2-for-4 with a double, a stolen base, two runs scored and four RBI while freshman centerfielder
Jillian Nitchman, Ballston Spa, N.Y., Ballston Spa High School, operating out of the second spot in the order went 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI two of them coming as a result of a two-run homer in the top of the third inning. Freshman first baseman Arieelle Kranbuhl, Booneville, N.Y., Adirondack High School, also had a productive game at the plate going 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI.
In the second game the Chargers broke open a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning with a four run outburst to grab a 6-2 lead.
The Fighting Tigers rallied in the top of the sixth scoring twice but the rally fell short as the Chargers hung on for the victory.
Once again Villielm and Nitchman played a major role in the offense with Villielm going 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored and Nichman also going 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of runs scored. First baseman
Rachel Hall was also a factor at the plate going 2-for-4 with two RBI in the game.
The Orange & Black will conclude their NEAC Pennsylvania road trip on Sunday April 7
th when they travel to Reading, Pa. to meet the five-time defending NEAC champion Nittany Lions of Penn State Berks beginning at 12:00 p.m.
