SUNY Cobleskill Baseball Swept by Penn State Abington Nittany Lions in NEAC Play

Fighting Tigers Lose to PSA Nitany Lions 7-1 & 12-3 in Conference Action

Abington, N.Y.:  The SUNY Cobleskill men's baseball team made their first conference trip to Pennsylvania over the weekend opening by dropping a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) doubleheader to the host Nittany Lions of Penn State Abington by scores of 7-1 and 12-3.  With the losses the Fighting Tigers drop to 6-12 overall with a 2-3 record in conference play while the Nittany Lions are now 12-10 overall with a 5-0 record in NEAC contests.

In the opener, the Nittany Lions capitalized on 11 Fighting Tiger walks issued to them to take an early 5-0 lead from which they did not look back.

The lone Cobleskill run came in the top of the fourth inning when freshman second baseman Joseph Ciatto, Patterson, N.Y., Carmel High School, singled, stole second base, advanced to third on a single by junior third baseman Jayson Maxwell, Newport, N.Y., Notre Dame Senior High School, and scored on a double by senior first baseman Nate Carinci, Oneida, N.Y., Oneida High School/Jefferson Community College.

In the nightcap, the Nittany Lions once again capitalized on seven walks and a pair of hit batters by Cobleskill pitchers to score the game's first 11 runs while holding Fighting Tiger hitters to only three hits.

The highlight of the game for the Orange & Black came off the bat off the bat of sophomore shortstop Eddy Garcia, Bronx, N.Y., World View High School, in the top of the sixth inning when he blasted a two-out home run over the left field wall.

The two teams will close the weekend action on Sunday afternoon, April 7th, with a single game scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
