Fighting Tiger Baseball Defeats NEAC Leading Penn State Abington 17-5

Cobleskill Offense Mauls Nittany Lion Pitching for 17 Runs on 25 Hits in Victory

Abington, Pa.: After dropping a road doubleheader to the North Eastern Athletic Conference's (NEAC) league leading Nittany Lions of Penn State Abington on Saturday; the SUNY Cobleskill baseball team came out swinging on Sunday afternoon in the series finale pounding out 17 runs on 25 hits to upset the league leaders by a 17-5 margin. With the victory the Fighting Tigers are now  7-12 overall including a 3-3 NEAC record while the Nittany Lions move to 12-11 overall with a 5-1 record in conference action.

Leading 8-3 going into the top of the fifth inning, the Fighting Tigers exploded for eight runs to take a 16-3 advantage from which they would not look back. All nine Cobleskill batters recorded a hit in the game with eight of them having two or more while seven Fighting Tiger batters would drive in runs on the afternoon.

With a number of players having great offensive days at the plate; the Cobleskill attack was spearheaded by junior left fielder Jayson Maxwell, Newport, N.Y., Notre Dame Senior High School, who went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double two runs scored and four RBI and by sophomore center fielder Mitchell Holmes, Dartmouth, Mass., Bristol County Agricultural High School, who went 3-for-5 with a home run, three runs scored and three RBI. Freshman third baseman Frank Leger, Bronx, N.Y., All Hallows High School, was 4-for-6 at the plate with two runs scored and four RBI while sophomore shortstop Eddie Garcia, Bronx, N.Y., World View High School, was 3-for-4 with a double, four runs scored and a pair of RBI.

The Fighting Tigers also received strong offensive efforts from: freshman second baseman Joseph Ciatto, Patterson, N.Y., Carmel High School, the team's lead-off hitter who went 4-for-7 with a double, a stolen base and two runs scored, freshman catcher Felix Pacheco, Bronx, N.Y., James Monroe High School, who went 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored and a RBI, sophomore designated hitter Jacob Hoffee, Lyndonville, N.Y., Lyndonville High School, who was 2-for-6 with a run scored and a RBI and from freshman right fielder  Anthony Disla, Bronx, N.Y., Metropolitan Soundview High School, who was 2-for-6 with a run scored.

On the mound, sophomore right hander Daniel Wade, Jefferson, N.Y., Jefferson High School, went six innings to improve to 3-2 on the season allowing three earned runs on seven hits while freshman reliever Kristopher Bulman, Williamson, N.Y., Williamson High School, earned his second three inning save of the year allowing one earned run on three hits striking out two and walking two.   
 
The Orange & Black will next be in action on Tuesday April 9th when they host the Gators of Pine Manor College for a non-league contest at Fighting Tiger Field beginning at 4:00 p.m.
