Brooklyn, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's soccer team closed their weekend down state road trip on Sunday by rallying to a 4-2 victory over the host Cannoneers of the Pratt Institute in a non-league contest played at the Aviator Sports Center. With the win the Fighting Tigers even their record at 1-1 on the year while Pratt falls to 1-2 overall.
The Fighting Tigers struck first in the 20
th minute of action when freshman forward
Julia Howard, Elizaville, N.Y., Germantown High School, scored to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage. Cobleskill then went on to lead at the half 2-0 when freshman midfielder
Anna Post, Bovina Center, N.Y., Delaware Academy, scored off a free kick by sophomore midfielder Rebecca Bruno, Middleburgh, N.Y., Middleburgh High School, in the 33
rd minute of play.
Cobleskill seemed to have the game in hand in the second half, eventually outshooting the Cannoneers 17-7 on the afternoon and holding a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks, when Pratt scored twice within 1:43 seconds of each other in the 73
rd and 75
th minute to tie the score at 2-2.
With time ticking away
Julia Howard intercepted an errant pass in front of the Cannoneers goal and blasted it home in the 82
nd minute to give the Orange & Black a 3-2 lead from which they never looked back.
Sophomore midfielder
Claire DeBoover, Phelps, N.Y., Midlakes High School, then iced the contest in the 89
th minute; pushing the ball past a multitude of Pratt defenders and beat the goalkeeper one-one-one in the box, to give the Fighting Tigers the final 4-2 margin of victory.
Cobleskill will next be in action on Saturday September 7
th when the host the Lyons of Mount Holyoke College at the Soccer/Lacrosse Complex with kick-off slated for 2:00 p.m. Â
