Fighting Tiger Men's Soccer Comes Back to Defeat Cazenovia College 3-2

Freshman Derek Streeter Scores Twice in 3-2 NEAC Home Win Over Cazenovia Wildcats

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team returned to the Soccer/Lacrosse Complex on Saturday afternoon to post a 3-2 come-from-behind win over the visiting Wildcats of Cazenovia College in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action. With the victory the Fighting Tigers move to 5-4-1 overall with a 3-1 record in league play while the Wildcats are now 3-4-1 and a 0-3-1 mark versus NEAC opponents.

The scoring opened for the Fighting Tigers when senior midfielder Mame Amar (Manhattan, N.Y./Liberty High School) crossed the ball to freshman midfielder Derek Streeter (Ilion, N.Y./Central Valley Academy) who slotted it home for his first collegiate goal at the 6-minute mark.  The score stayed 1-0 until the second half when Cazenovia would take the lead 2-1 after sophomore midfielder Hampus Espeland (Stenungsund, Sweden) and freshman forward Ibrahim Maalim (Utica, N.Y., Thomas R. Proctor High School) scored two unassisted goals in the 48th and 63rd minute of play.

The Fighting Tigers bounced back quickly when sophomore forward Chris Gardener (Hudson, N.Y./Hudson High School) beat his defender down the line and crossed the ball to the back post for Mame Amar to score and tie the game at 2-2 in the 70th minute of action.

After tying the score, Cobleskill continued to attack the net and in the 84th minute Derek Streeter converted off the end of a Mame Amar cross and buried the ball in the back of the net for his second goal in the game and his first game winning score as Amar would finish the day with a goal and two assists in the victory.

Freshman keeper Rashawn Best (Brooklyn, N.Y./Martin Luther King High School) finished the game with nine saves as Cobleskill outshot the Wildcats 19 to 12 on the afternoon.

The Orange & Black will next be in action on Saturday October 5th when they host The Express of Wells College for a NEAC contest with kick-off slated for 1:00 p.m.
