Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team returned to the Soccer/Lacrosse Complex on Saturday afternoon to post a 3-2 come-from-behind win over the visiting Wildcats of Cazenovia College in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action. With the victory the Fighting Tigers move to 5-4-1 overall with a 3-1 record in league play while the Wildcats are now 3-4-1 and a 0-3-1 mark versus NEAC opponents.
The scoring opened for the Fighting Tigers when senior midfielder
Mame Amar (Manhattan, N.Y./Liberty High School) crossed the ball to freshman midfielder
Derek Streeter (Ilion, N.Y./Central Valley Academy) who slotted it home for his first collegiate goal at the 6-minute mark. The score stayed 1-0 until the second half when Cazenovia would take the lead 2-1 after sophomore midfielder Hampus Espeland (Stenungsund, Sweden) and freshman forward Ibrahim Maalim (Utica, N.Y., Thomas R. Proctor High School) scored two unassisted goals in the 48
th and 63
rd minute of play.
The Fighting Tigers bounced back quickly when sophomore forward
Chris Gardener (Hudson, N.Y./Hudson High School) beat his defender down the line and crossed the ball to the back post for
Mame Amar to score and tie the game at 2-2 in the 70
th minute of action.Â
After tying the score, Cobleskill continued to attack the net and in the 84
th minute
Derek Streeter converted off the end of a
Mame Amar cross and buried the ball in the back of the net for his second goal in the game and his first game winning score as Amar would finish the day with a goal and two assists in the victory. Â
Freshman keeper
Rashawn Best (Brooklyn, N.Y./Martin Luther King High School) finished the game with nine saves as Cobleskill outshot the Wildcats 19 to 12 on the afternoon.
The Orange & Black will next be in action on Saturday October 5
th when they host The Express of Wells College for a NEAC contest with kick-off slated for 1:00 p.m.
