Women's Basketball Completes Comeback to Defeat Visiting Keuka College 61-53 in League Action

Tigers Outscore Keuka 28 to 9 in the Fourth Quater to Complete Comeback

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team returned home on Wednesday evening and defeated the visiting Wolves of Keuka College by a 61-53 margin in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action. With the victory the Fighting Tigers move to 7-6 overall including a 2-2 record in NEAC play while Keuka is now 5-6 overall with a 1-3 record versus league opponents.

After a slow start to the game, the Tigers were down 40-18 early in the second half but capped an impressive comeback to earn their second NEAC win on the year.  They used an 11-point run in the fourth quarter to claw themselves back into the game and went on to outscore the visitors 28-9 in the fourth quarter. Junior Nylasia Sutton (Queens, N.Y./ Lansingburgh) stepped up and hit two clutch shots to help the Tigers take the lead and extend it late in the fourth quarter.  Sutton finished the game with a game-high 17 points and 6 rebounds.

Freshman guard Megan Hughes (Warrensburg, N.Y./ Warrensburg) had a major impact on the game for the Tigers and was a presence on both ends.  She finished with an all-around game of 11 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals while shooting 5 for 8 from the free throw line.  Freshman forward Sierra Delaney (Ballston Spa, N.Y./ Ballston Spa) controlled the paint for the Tigers by scoring 8 points on 4 of 5 shooting.

The Tigers shot 37.7% from the field for the game and 35.7% from three.  They held an 18-5 advantage in fast break points over the visitors and out rebounded Keuka 46-40 on the evening.

The Orange & Black will return to league play on Saturday January 18th when they travel to Aurora, N.Y. for a NEAC meeting with The Express of Wells College with tip-off at 3:00 p.m.
