Aurora, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team hit the road on Saturday and enjoyed a 81-58 victory over the Express of Wells College in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action. With the win the Fighting Tigers move to 10-3 overall including a 4-1 record in conference play while Wells drops to 2-11 overall and a 1-4 record in the NEAC.
The Tigers were up to the challenge of going on the road to capture their fourth NEAC win of the year. Their defensive pressure and athleticism were too much for Wells to handle as they turned turnovers and defensive rebounds into fast break points throughout the contest. A big reason for their success was their stellar shooting and unselfish play. The Tigers finished the game shooting 52.5% from the field and 45.5% from long range. Their offense moved the ball and ended the game with 21 assists which helped four different players score in double figures.
Senior swingmen
Antwan Claxton (Bronx, N.Y./ Taft) was a problem for Wells on both sides of the court all game. The senior finished with 21 points on 8 of 11 shooting, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals. His fellow senior
Daniel Owens (Albany, N.Y./ Christian Brothers Academy) didn't miss a beat returning from injury and scored 15 points to go with 5 rebounds and 3 assists.
James Conteh (Queens, N.Y./ Patrick School) continued his strong play and finished with 19 points on 8 of 14 shooting. Senior
Devin Boyle (Johnstown, N.Y./ Johnstown) provided a spark off the bench for the Fighting Tigers with 10 points.
The Fighting Tigers will return to the Iorio Gymnasium on Sunday, January 19
th for a non-league contest versus the Broncos of SUNY Delhi beginning at 3:00 p.m.
