Women's Basketball Comes Up Short vs. Morrisville State, 55-75

Megan Hughes posts 15 points and 12 rebounds double/double in loss

Morrisville, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team fell short to the Mustangs of Morrisville State by a 75-55 margin in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action. With the defeat the Fighting Tigers move to 8-8 overall including a 3-4 record in NEAC play while Morrisville improves to 10-6 overall and 6-1 in the league.

Cobleskill jumped out to an early 9-1 lead over Morrisville after freshman Megan Hughes (Warrensburg, N.Y./ Warrensburg) finished a layup at the 6:14 mark in the first quarter.  For the next three minutes both teams battled back and forth until Morrisville took a 15-13 lead at the 3:36 mark after Taylor Colone-Microni hit a three pointer for the Mustangs.  Once Morrisville took the lead, they wouldn't relinquish it and led for the remainder of the contest.

The Tigers suffered a challenging day on the offensive end of the floor.  Cobleskill shot 34.3 percent from the field (14.3 percent from 3-point range) and had a tough time dealing with the defensive pressure put on by the Mustangs.  Morrisville forced Cobleskill into 26 turnovers which turned into 23 points off turnovers for the Mustangs.  The Morrisville bench played a key part in the victory for the Mustangs by finishing the game with 41 points while outscoring the Tigers bench by 23.

Megan Hughes finished the game with a double/double of 15 points and 12 rebounds (10 defensive rebounds) while shooting 7-of-10 from the field.  Fellow freshman Anna Post (Bovina Center, N.Y./ Delaware Academy) and Sierra Delaney (Ballston Spa, N.Y./ Ballston Spa) put in solid performances for the Tigers.  Post nearly finished with a double/double with 9 points and 9 rebounds and Delaney posted 9 points and 8 rebounds coming off the bench.

The Orange & Black will return home for their next contest when they host Cazenovia College on Wednesday, January 29th at 7 p.m. in the Iorio Gymnasium.
