Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team opened the 2020 portion of their season on Tuesday evening by extending their current winning streak to five games by defeating the visiting Lyons of Mount Holyoke College by a 59-33 margin in non-conference action. With the win the Fighting Tigers move to 6-4 overall on the season to date while Mount Holyoke is now 1-12 overall on the year.
Leading 31-to-23 at the half, the Fighting Tigers used a suffocating second half defensive effort to secure the victory limiting the visitors to only two points in the third quarter and eight points in the fourth while holding the Lyons to only 13-of-59, 22.0%, from the field on the evening.
Offensively Cobleskill dominated the action in the paint scoring 40 points inside compared to Mount Holyoke's 12.
Sophomore
TyLysa Martinez, Coram, N.Y., Longwood High School, was the driving force for the Orange & Black in the victory with strong play on both ends of the court with: 21 points, five rebounds, four steals and two block shots with senior center
Gabby Muraczewski, Hamilton Square, N.J., Sothern Regional High School, adding 12 points and eight rebounds on the evening. Freshman forward
Sierra Delaney, Ballston Spa, N.Y., Ballston Spa High School, was also a factor in the victory in a reserve role with eight points and eight rebounds.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action over the weekend when they return to North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action traveling to Pennsylvania for a pair of conference contests beginning on Saturday January 11
th when they travel to Abington, Pa. to face the Nittany Lions of Penn State Abington beginning at 3:00 p.m. prior to traveling to Harrisburg, Pa. for a league meeting with the Nittany Lions of Penn State Harrisburg beginning at 2:00 p.m.
