Fighting Tiger Men's Basketball Out Distances Penn State Berks 107-82 in NEAC Action

Claxton Hits for 41 Points as Fighting Tigers Top Nittany Lions in Conference Play

Reading, Pa.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team traveled south for the final time this regular season to post a NBA like 107-82 win over the Nittany Lions of Penn State Berks in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action on Saturday afternoon. With the high scoring victory, the Fighting Tigers move to 14-8 overall including a 8-5 record in conference action while the Nittany Lions are now 2-19 overall with a 2-11 record versus NEAC opponents.

With the game tied at 73-73 with 9:18 remaining in regulation, Cobleskill hit the home team with an impressive 34-to-9 run to close out the contest dominating both ends of the court led by senior swingman Antwan Claxton, Bronx, N.Y., Taft High School, who posted numbers that were Kobe Bryant like finishing the game with: 41 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two steals and one blocked shot connecting on 15-of-22 shots from the field including 3-of-5 from three-point range while hitting on 8-of-8 free throw attempts. Claxton scored 11 of the team's points in the game winning run to help secure the victory for the visitors.

The visitors also received important contributions from senior guard Daniel Owens, Albany, N.Y., Christian Brothers Academy/Herkimer Community College, who scored 13 points to go with five rebounds, four steals and three assists and senior forward Kahlil Wilson, New York, N.Y., Renaissance Charter School, with 12 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three blocked shots. Junior Darius Hines, Troy, N.Y., Troy High School/Herkimer Community College, was also a major factor in a reserve role for Cobleskill with 12 points and three rebounds on the afternoon.

The 107 points scored by the Fighting Tigers is the most scored by a SUNY Cobleskill basketball team since the program's move to the NCAA Division III level of competition in 2008 and assures the program of its first back-to-back winning seasons since the move to the four-year level of competition.

The Orange & Black will next be in action on Wednesday February 19th when they travel to Cazenovia, N.Y. to meet the Wildcats of Cazenovia College for a NEAC match-up with tip-off at 5:00 p.m.
