Aston, Pa.: The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team opened the 2020 season on Saturday by splittingĀ a pair of road games with the Nittany Lions of Penn State Brandywine losing the opener 5-3 and taking the nightcap 2-1 in games played at the Maple Zone Center as part of a four-game weekend series. With the split the Fighting Tigers are now 1-1 overall on the year while the Nittany Lions are also 1-1 on the season.
In the opener the Fighting Tigers we led on offense by junior pitcher
Jarrod Williams, Baldwinsville, N.Y., C.W. Baker High School/Finger Lakes Community College, who went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI and by junior shortstop
Eddy Garcia, Bronx, N.Y., World View High School, who was 1-for-3 with a double and a RBI. Junior first baseman
Nick Thomas, Scotia, N.Y., Scotia-Glenville High School/Hudson Valley Community College, was also a factor at the plate going 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
Jarrod Williams was tagged with the loss on the mound going four innings allowing four earned runs on six hits, striking out five and walking only one.
In the nightcap the Fighting Tiger pitching staff was impressive as junior southpaw
Devin Lewis, Cobleskill, N.Y., Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, earned the win with five innings of shutout baseball striking out four and walking only one followed by sophomore
Kristopher Bulman, Williamson, N.Y., Williamson High School, who worked a scoreless sixth to earn a hold followed by sophomore
Manielvic Diplan, Peekskill, N.Y., Peekskill High School/Monroe College, who earned the save allowing one earned run in the seventh inning.
Offensively Cobleskill first baseman
Nick Thomas went 1-for-3 with a triple and a RBI while sophomore second baseman
Joseph Ciatto, Patterson, N.Y., Carmel High School, finished the day going 1-for-3 with a run scored.
The Fighting Tigers and Nittany Lions will be back at it on Sunday February 23
rd at the Maple Zone for a pair of non-conference contests scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
