Yaphank, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill baseball continued their winning ways on Sunday afternoon splitting a doubleheader with the Trailblazers of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) taking three-of-four games over the weekend from MCLA losing the opener by a 13-6 margin then coming back from eight runs down to take the nightcap in eight innings by a score of 10-9 in games played at the Baseball Heaven Complex. With the split Cobleskill moves to 6-2 overall on the season while MCLA is now 1-3 on the campaign.
In the opener the Fighting Tigers fell behind 11-0 after three innings and could not come back as the Trailblazers touched up the Cobleskill pitching staff for 13 runs, 11 earned, on 12 hits in the game.
Offensively Cobleskill junior right fielder
Nick Thomas, Scotia, N.Y., Scotia-Glenville High School/Hudson Valley Community College, went 1-for-2 on the afternoon with two runs scored, three RBI and this third home run of the weekend while junior center fielder
Eddy Garcia, Bronx, N.Y., World View High School, went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, a run scored and a RBI.
In the nightcap the Fighting Tigers once again fell behind early tailing 8-2 after the first two innings then made a comeback over the next five innings to eventually tie the game in the bottom of the seventh with one out when sophomore second baseman
Joseph Ciatto, Patterson, N.Y., Carmel High School, singled home junior pinch runner
Mitchell Holmes, Millbury, Mass., Millbury High School, who had advance to second on a wild pitch.
Cobleskill then scored the game winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning when junior first baseman
Jarrod Williams, Baldwinsville, N.Y., C.W Baker High School/Finger Lakes Community College, reached on an error and advanced to third on a single by freshman designated hitter
Connor Maxwell, Newport, N.Y., West Canada High School. Williams then scored on a sacrifice fly to right field by junior third baseman
Chris Kordziel, Rotterdam, N.Y., Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons High School/Hudson Valley Community College, to give the Orange & Black the walk-off win.
Junior pitcher
Kristopher Bulman, Williamson, N.Y., Williamson High School, earned the victory in relief by going 6 1/3 innings allowing one run on six hits.
The Fighting Tigers were led on offense by
Joseph Ciatto who went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI and by center fielder Eddie Garcia who went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Right fielder
Nick Thomas also had a big game at the plate going 4-for-4 two doubles and two runs scored.
Cobleskill will return to action on Wednesday March 4
th when they travel to Oneonta, N.Y. for a game against the Oneonta State Red Dragons beginning at 3:00 p.m. Â Â
