Fighting Tiger Women's Volleyball Falls on Road to NAC Rival SUNY Polytechnic 3-1

SUNY Cobleskill Women's Volleyball Loses on Road to SUNY Poly


Marcy, N.Y.: In their quest for a bid to the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play-offs the SUNY Cobleskill women's volleyball suffered a setback on the road dropping a 3-1 decision to the host Wildcats of the SUNY Polytechnic Institute on Wednesday evening by set scores of: 18-25, 14-25, 25-14 and 23-25. With the defeat the Fighting Tigers are now 6-10 overall on the year including a 2-2 record in conference play while the Wildcats move to 6-10 on the season to date with a 4-2 mark versus NAC opponents.

Coming off their fall break, the Fighting Tigers struggled initially in the opening set losses before storming back to take the third set decisively. Then trailing by a 16-6 margin in the fourth set, the Orange & Black staged an impressive comeback to tie the score at 23-23 before the Wildcats broke serve and secured the victory on a match-point service ace.

Fighting Tiger senior setter Maleigha Ellithorpe, Cazenovia, N.Y., Cazenovia High School/Onondaga Community College, turned in a strong effort in defeat for the visitors with 27 assists to go with eight digs and three service aces while sophomore middle hitter Alexis Miranda, Nashua, N.H., Nashua High School, continued her strong play with eight kills, four total blocks and a pair of digs on the evening.

Junior opposite side hitter Chase Mizell, Seville, Ohio, Cloverleaf High School, was also a factor in the match for the away team with eight kills along with junior defensive specialist Molly Lawrence, DeRuyter, N.Y., DeRuyter High School, who had 16 digs on the night.   

Cobleskill will return to action over the weekend when they travel to Cazenovia, N.Y. on Friday October 15 for a NAC meeting with the Wildcats of Cazenovia College beginning at 6:00 p.m. followed on Saturday October 16 with a trip to Canton, N.Y. for a league match-up with the Kangaroos of SUNY Canton with first serve slated for 1:00 p.m.
