Fighting Tiger Men's Soccer Shuts Out Northern Vernont University-Johnson 2-0 in NAC Action

Cobleskill Men's Soccer Ends Four-Game Losing Streak With 2-0 Win Over NVU Johnson

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team broke a four-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon by defeating the visiting Badgers of Northern Vermont University Johnson by a 2-0 margin in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action at the Fighting Tigers Soccer/Lacrosse Complex. With the victory Cobleskill improves to 3-10 overall on the season including a 2-5 record in conference play while the Badgers fall to 1-11 overall with a 0-8 conference record.

Cobleskill struck first with what turned out to be the game winning goal in the eighth minute of play when first-year midfielder Cater Ciavardoni, Latham, N.Y., Shaker High School, rebounded a blast off the foot of junior defender Ben Kessler, East Northport, N.Y., St. Anthony's High School, that the Badger goalie could not handle in the box and found the back of the visitor's net.

The home team added an insurance goal in the 40th minute of play when first-year forward Mike Masocco, Eden, N.Y., Eden High School, converted in the box off a thru ball from sophomore forward Adama Diop, Harlem, N.Y., Frederick Douglas Academy, that gave the Orange & Black a 2-0 lead which they would never look back from.

Defensively, junior goalkeeper John Gergen, Greenville, N.Y., Greenville High School, recorded six saves on the afternoon to record his first career shutout victory.

The Fighting Tigers will return to action on Tuesday October 19 when the host league rival SUNY Delhi for a NAC contest at the Soccer/Lacrosse Complex with kick-off scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
