Fighting Tiger Men's Soccer Downs SUNY Delhi 2-1 at Home in NAC Battle

SUNY Cobleskill Men's Soccer Defeats Delhi Broncos 2-1

Cobleskill, N.Y.: One of the oldest rivalries in New York State College soccer returned on Tuesday afternoon at the SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers and SUNY Delhi Broncos took to the pitch for a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest that could have conference play-off ramifications. In a game that resembled many encounters from years past dating back to the early 1960's, it was the Fighting Tigers taking a 2-1 decision on their home turf to improve to 4-10 overall on the season to date including a 3-5 mark in conference play while the Broncos fall to 2-11-1 overall with a 2-6 mark versus NAC opponents.

Trailing 1-0 in the first half, Cobleskill tied the contest at 1-1 in the 35th minute when first-year midfielder Cater Ciavardoni, Latham, N.Y., Shaker High School, connected on a direct kick from 25-yards out.

With the game turning into a hard-fought physical affair in the second half, the Fighting Tigers took advantage of a Bronco turnover in the visitors end of the field which led to first-year forward Mike Masocco, Eden, N.Y., Eden Junior/Senior High School, finding first-year midfielder Tyler Cinamon, Oceanside, N.Y., Oceanside High School, in the box for a sliding chip over the Bronco goalie for the eventual game winner in the 65th minute.

Junior goalkeeper John Gergen, Greenville, N.Y., Greenville High School, then made the lead stand-up recording five saves and breaking up several Delhi offensive attacks down the stretch to secure the victory.

Cobleskill will return to action on Saturday October 23 when they travel to Cazenovia College for their final NAC contest of the year versus the Wildcats with kick-off scheduled for 1:00
