Fighting Tiger Volleyball Posts 3-1 Win Over Castleton University on Senior Night

Fighting Tigers Down Castleton University Spartans 3-1 on Senior Night


Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's volleyball team sent their senior class out in style on Wednesday evening stepping out of North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on to take a 3-1 decision from the visiting Spartans of Castleton University at the Iorio Gymnasium by set scores of 25-20, 25-12, 15-25 and 25-22. With the "Senior Night" victory, the Fighting Tigers are now 8-11 overall on the year while the Spartans fall to 4-15 overall on the campaign.

The Cobleskill senior class played a major role in the win as middle hitter Jillian Nitchman, Ballston Spa, N.Y., Ballston Spa High School, started the evening with a kill and ended it with the match winning kill as part of a 10-kill effort while senior setter Maleigha Ellithorpe, Cazenovia, N.Y., Cazenovia High School/Onondaga Community College, contributed 35 assists, six digs and a pair of service aces on the evening.

The Fighting Tigers also received strong performances from sophomore middle hitter Alexis Miranda, Nashua, N.H., Nashua High School, with a match high of 15 kills and three total blocks and from sophomore outside hitter Mackenzie Larson, Winterset, Iowa, Winterset High School, who had was dealing service aces with seven on the night to go along with 14 digs and six kills.

Defensively, sophomore libero Kelley Miller, Fort Mill, S.C., Fort Mill High School, was strong with 15 digs in the win along with sophomore defensive specialist Victoria O'Bar, Middlebury, Conn., Nonnewaug High School, who had 10 digs to go with two important fourth set service aces.

The Orange & Black will close out their NAC regular season on Sunday October 24 when they travel to Delhi, N.Y. for a conference triangular meet facing the host Broncos of SUNY Delhi at 11:00 a.m. followed with by a 1:00 p.m. match-up with the Wildcats of the SUNY Polytechnic Institute
