In an early season battle, it was the host Plattsburgh Cardinals that bested SUNY Cobleskill 71-60 in non-conference women's action. The loss drops the Tigers to 1-2 in the early going while the Cardinals move to 2-1.
The Tigers came out ready to fight and took a 12-9 advantage after the first five minutes of the game. They kept up the high pressure and caused the Cardinals to turn the ball over which Cobleskill took advantage of early and often. Then right before the first quarter ended, freshman
Keyara Maxwell (Middletown, NY) banked in a three pointer to give the Tigers a 21-15 heading into the second quarter.
Cobleskill started the second quarter on a 9-0 run fueled by outside shooting and pushed their lead to 29-15. The two team went back and forth trading points for the rest of the quarter.
Heading into the half the Tigers led 36-29 over the hosts. Senior
TyLysa Martinez (Coram, NY) led all scorers with 8 points while sophomore
Hannah Cater (Schoharie, NY) dominated the defensive end with 5 blocks.
The third quarter saw the Cardinals of SUNY Plattsburgh rally together and gain momentum. They went on a 11-0 run to tie the game at 43-43 at the 4:29 mark. Turnovers hurt the Tigers in the second half and the hosts took the lead 47-45 late in the third quarter and didn't look back, outscoring Cobleskill 21-9 in the quarter.
In the fourth, the hosts continued to use their home court momentum to push the lead. The Cardinals extended their lead and won the game 71-60 over the Tigers.
Cobleskill finished the contest shooting 40 percent while the Cardinals shot it at 35.2 percent. The hosts held a 45-44 rebound edge including an 18-12 on the offensive glass.

Anna Post (Bovina Center,NY) who scored a team high 14 points to go with 5 rebounds.
Hannah Cater finished with a game high 7 blocks on the defensive end for the Tigers. The Cardinals were led by Payton Couture who scored a game high 16 points and brought down 13 rebounds for the double double.
