Fighting Tiger Harriers Place Sixth at 2021 Regional Championship Meet

Geneseo, N.Y.: Under adverse weather conditions, the SUNY Cobleskill men's cross country team closed the 2021 season Saturday at the NCAA Division III Niagara Regional Championships hosted by SUNY Geneseo at the National War Plane Museum. The Fighting Tigers posted a team score of 195 points to place sixth overall in the field of 26 teams to record the best regional finish in program history. Cobleskill had entered the regional ranked sixth in the final regional coaches' poll.

A program record three Fighting Tiger runners earned All-Niagara Region Team honors led by sophomore Nick Logan, Queensbury, N.Y., Queensbury High School, who placed 20th overall in the 159-runner field by battling through the wind, rain and sleet to cover the muddy 8000-meter loop in a time of 26:00.2. Cobleskill also received All-Regional efforts from first-year Eamonn Sullivan, Wappingers Falls, N.Y., Fordham Preparatory School, who finished 32nd overall in 26:20.2 and from senior Dillon Vandemortel, Newark, N.Y., Newark High School, in 33rd place in 26:21.3.

Rounding out the scoring for the Orange & Black were senior Jared Craw, Colonie, N.Y., Colonie High School/Hudson Valley Community College, who finished 40th overall in 26:37.8 and first-year Shane Viscosi, Fultonville, N.Y., Fonda-Fultonville High School, who placed 71st with a time of 27:34.9.

Fighting Tiger Head Coach Mitch Tomaszkiewicz spoke highly of his team's effort under the conditions and reflected on the year and what the season meant to the program moving forward.

"We ran a good race under some very tough weather and course conditions today as evidenced by three of our guys earning All-Regional Team honors. We came in today ranked sixth and we finished sixth in a very competitive region proving that we were not a paper Tiger but a true regional contender. I am very proud of the way our guys competed today especially our upperclassmen who turned in exceptional efforts when we needed them to perform on the big stage. I think you also saw how talented our underclassmen are which bodes well for the future of the program. We will now turn our attention to bringing in quality recruits to help us replace our graduating senior class and the continued development of our underclassmen through the indoor and outdoor track & field seasons. We've taken steps this year but the journey is far from over and only by hard work can we get to where we want to go."
