Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team returned to their home court on Thursday evening dropping a 76-61 decision to the visiting Red Dragons of SUNY Oneonta in non-conference action at the Iorio Gymnasium. With the loss the Fighting Tigers fall to 1-4 overall on the year while Oneonta breaks into the win column and is now 1-4 overall on the season to date.
After a first quarter that saw the Red Dragons take a 14-13 lead in the first minute of play, the visitors put the contest away in the second quarter when the visitors outscored the Fighting Tigers 31-13 to take a 45-26 lead from which they never looked back as the visitors turned 22 Fighting Tiger turnovers into 26 points in the victory. Â
Oneonta was led by the tandem of freshman forward Amanda Zuntag,, Staten Island, N.Y., Notre Dame Academy, who had 14 points to go with eight rebounds and sophomore guard Molly Stephens, LaGrange, N.Y., Arlington High School, who led all scorers with 15 points along with two assists.
The Fighting Tigers were led by junior forward
Megan Hughes, Warrensburg, N.Y., Warrensburg High School, who had 12 points and five rebounds on the evening and first-year guard
Annie Canales, North Adams, Mass., Hoosac Valley High School, who had 12 points and four assists. Cobleskill also received solid efforts from senior guard
TyLysa Martinez, Coram, N.Y., Longwood High School, with 11 points and three rebounds and from junior center
Jordan Finch, East Meredith, N.Y., South Kortright High School, who scored 10 points and pulled down three rebounds along with a pair of blocked shots.
Cobleskill will next be in action on Friday, November 19, when they travel to New York City to meet the Bearcats of Baruch College in non-league action beginning at 6:00 p.m.
