Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team opened the home portion of the 2021-22 schedule on Monday evening downing the visiting Colonials of Western Connecticut State University by a 57-47 margin at the Iorio Gymnasium. With the non-conference victory, the Fighting Tigers even their overall record at 1-1 on the season while Western Connecticut opens the year at 0-1.
The Fighting Tiger used a strong defensive effort to stifle the visitors as Cobleskill held the Colonials to 16-for-67 from the field, 23.9%, including 2-for-17 from beyond the three-point arc, 11.8%, while forcing 18 turnovers on the night.
First-year guard
Annie Canales, North Adams, Mass., Hoosac Valley High School, led a balanced scoring attack with 13 points to go with five rebounds with senior guard Tylysa Martinez, Coram, N.Y., Longwood High School, hitting for 10 points and grabbing five rebounds. Junior guard/forward
Anna Post, Bovina Center, N.Y., Delaware Academy, grabbed a team high 14 rebounds to go with seven points while first-year guard Eva Norris, Wolcott, N.Y., Rose-Wolcott High School, netted seven points and passed out three assists in the win. Ā
The Orange & Black will next be in action on Friday November 12 when they travel to Plattsburgh, N.Y. where they will meet SUNY Cobleskill in the opening round of the Cardinal Classic hosted by SUNY Plattsburgh with tip-off at 5:00 p.m. before opening the Classic's second day with a game against the Bears of SUNY Potsdam on Saturday November 13 at 1:00 p.m.
