Fighting Tiger Women's Basketball Downs SUNY Delhi 96-44 in NAC Opener

Cobleskill Women Post 96-44 over Delhi Broncos in NAC Opener


Delhi, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team flexed their offensive and defensive muscles on Saturday blitzing the host Broncos of SUNY Delhi by a 96-44 margin in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener for both teams. With the decisive victory the Fighting Tigers improve to 4-5 overall on the season including a 1-0 mark in NAC play while Delhi falls to 0-9 overall with a 0-1 conference record.

The Fighting Tigers used a hot shooting first quarter to effectively put the game in the win column as the Orange & Black scored a season best 38 points in the period to take a 38-17 lead from which they never looked back.

Cobleskill connected on a season best 38-of-66 shots from the field, 57.6%, on the afternoon including an impressive, 10-of-17, 58.8%, from three-point range while defensively forcing the home team into 27 turnovers and a decisive 44-25 rebound advantage. The visitors also showed balance and depth in the line-up as the Fighting Tiger bench held a 47-to-5 advantage over the home team in scoring.

First-year guard Annie Canales, North Adams, Mass., Hoosac Valley High School, led the team in scoring with 18 points on the day to go with four steals and three rebounds with junior guard/forward Anna Post, Bovina Center, N.Y., Delaware Academy, returning to her home area to score 17 points.

Off the bench, junior guard/forward Megan Hughes, Warrensburg, N.Y., Warrensburg High School, tossed in 12 points to go with three rebounds, first-year forward Hannah Cater, Schoharie, N.Y., Schoharie High School, scored 11 points, grabbed seven rebounds, blocked three shots and made four steals, sophomore guard Taylor Meacham, Berne, N.Y., Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School, scored 11 points and took down eight rebounds and first-year guard Eva Norris, Wolcott, N.Y., North Rose-Wolcott High School, had 11 points to go with four assists and three rebounds.

The Orange & Black will return to action on Wednesday December 8 when they host the Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton College of Albany for a non-conference contest with tip-off at 6:00 p.m.
