Cazenovia, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's volleyball took to the road on Sunday afternoon to take a pair of matches from the host Wildcats of Cazenovia College coming from behind to win the first match 3-2 by set scores of 18-25, 15-25, 25-21, 25-23 and 15-8 then winning the closing contest 3-2 by set scores of 20-25, 25-14, 25-6, 21-25 and 15-11. With the victories the Fighting Tigers are now 2-2 overall on the year to date while the Wildcats are currently 2-3 overall on the campaign.
In the opener the Orange & Black trailed 2-0 before rolling to the next three set wins behind the strong play of freshman outside hitter
Mackenzie Larson, Winterset, Iowa, Winterset High School, who had a match high of 23 kills to go with 15 digs, two service aces and a pair of blocks while freshman middle hitter
Emily Wisniewski, Southbury, Conn., Nonnewaug High School, added eight kills, five blocks and two service aces in the win.
In the finale the Fighting Tigers were once again led by
Mackenzie Lawson who went for 15 kills, eight digs and seven service aces and Wisniewski who went for 13 kills in the victory. Senior setter
Maleigha Ellithorpe, Cazenovia, N.Y., Onondaga Community College, also played a role in the victory with 33 assists in the match after posting 38 assists in the first match victory.
Cobleskill will next be in action on Friday April 17 when they return to the home confines of the Iorio Gymnasium to close the 2021 season with a pair of matches versus SUNY Polytechnic Institute beginning at 5:00 p.m. Due to local pandemic restrictions, spectators will not be allowed at any Fighting Tiger home contests this season.
