Fighting Tiger Baseball Downs Utica College 13-4 in Non-League Action

SUNY Cobleskill Baseball Tops Utica College Pioneers 13-4


Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team stepped out of conference play flexing some impressive offensive firepower to defeat the visiting Pioneers of Utica College on Wednesday afternoon at Fighting Tiger Field by a 13-4 margin. With the win the Fighting Tigers improve to 4-1 overall on the season while the Pioneers fall to 10-9 overall on the year to date.

The Fighting Tigers capitalized on a series of Pioneer defensive miscues in the second inning to push three unearned runs across the plate to take a 3-0 lead then extended the lead to 5-0 in the third inning when sophomore infielder Frank Leger, Bronx, N.Y., All-Hallows High School, singled home a pair of runs giving the home team a lead they would never relinquish. For the day Leger was 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.

Cobleskill was once again led offensively by the combination of senior centerfielder Nick Thomas, Scotia, N.Y., Scotia-Glenville High School/Hudson Valley Community College, who was 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and three RBI and junior shortstop Eddy Garcia, Bronx, N.Y., World View High School, who went 2-for-6 with a triple, two RBI and a run scored.

Senior right hander Ethan Straub, Oswego, N.Y., Hannibal High School/Jefferson Community College, recorded the victory allowing two unearned runs in a pair of innings worked in relief of freshman starter StephenTejada, Queens, N.Y., High School for Construction, who went four innings allowing two earned runs on five hits while striking out two and walking two.

The Orange & Black are next scheduled, weather permitting, to return to action on Saturday April 17 when they are set to host the Wildcats of the SUNY Polytechnic Institute for a pair of North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contests at Fighting Tiger Field beginning at 1:00 p.m.
