SUNY Cobleskill Men's Lax Loses at Home to SUNY Polytechnic 17-9

Fighting Tiger Lax Drops 17-9 Decision to Visiting SUNY Poly in NAC Play


Marcy, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's lacrosse team returned to action on Saturday returning the Soccer/Lacrosse Complex to drop a 17-9 decision to the Western Division leading Wildcats of SUNY Polytechnic Institute in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action. With the loss the Fighting Tigers fall to 0-5 overall on the season and in conference action while the Wildcats move to 6-0 on the year to date including a 4-0 record in conference play.

Early on the Fighting Tigers battled the Wildcats to a standstill ending the first period tied at 3-3 then falling behind at the break by a 9-7 margin. However, the visitors dominated the action in the third period moving out to a 15-7 lead from which they never looked back to secure the victory.

The Orange & Black received strong offensive efforts from sophomore midfielder Giovanni Bevaqua, Newton, N.J., Newtown High School, who scored two goals to go with an assist and from freshman attackman Gregory Neumann, Accord, N.Y., Rondout Valley High School, who scored a goal and passed out four assists on the afternoon. Junior attackman Kerry Blackwood, Johnstown, N.Y., Johnstown High School/Hudson Valley Community College, was also a factor in the contest with a pair of goals.

Defensively, freshman goalie Sean McMahon, Clifton Park, N.Y., Shenendehowa High School, made 17 saves and picked-up a pair of groundballs while senior midfielder Nick Dominic, Pittsford, N.Y., Pittsford High School, tallied 11 groundballs to go with six caused turnovers in his final home contest.  

The Fighting Tigers are scheduled to close the 2021 season on Monday April 26 when they travel to Delhi, N.Y. to face the Broncos of SUNY Delhi with face-off scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
