Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill Athletic Department announced today that
Matt Williams has been named the interim head women's soccer coach for the 2021 season. Williams replaces Rosie Kays has resigned to accept the head women's soccer coaching position at Neumann University in Ashton Township, Pa. During her four years with the program, Kays posted a 9-40-1 overall record with the Fighting Tigers including a 4-25-1 mark in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action.
According to Williams, he's looking forward to this new assignment and excited to get started.

Williams joined the SUNY Cobleskill staff in 2015 after graduating from SUNY Cortland with a bachelors in Exercise Science with a concentration Sport Studies. He later earned his M.S. in Sports Management at SUNY Cortland in 2020. He's in his seventh year with the Men's Soccer team and his third as their Associate Head Coach. Outside of coaching, he has been the Assistant Sports Information Director for the past three years.
The Cobleskill, N.Y. native has helped Head Coach Joe Machado turn the men's soccer program around in his seven years with the program helping the Orange & Black reach the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) playoffs in 2018 for the first time since 2009 advancing to the tournament's quarterfinals followed by another NEAC playoff appearance in 2019. Williams was instrumental in program's individual player development efforts which saw 10 Fighting Tiger players earn all-conference honors with on player earning NEAC Defensive Player-of-the-Year honors and one player earning NEAC Rookie-of-the-Year honors during his tenure.
After a stellar high school career at Cobleskill-Richmondville High School in Section II, Williams played college soccer at Springfield College for a season before transferring to SUNY Cortland. While at SUNY Cortland he played for three years with the Red Dragons and played in over 45 games. During his time with the program the team went to: two SUNYAC championship games, were nationally ranked and qualified for the 2014 NCAA Division III tournament. In 2014, his team made it to the Division III NCAA National Tournament and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen.
Williams is currently entering his seventh year at SUNY Cobleskill and has worked in many areas of the Athletic Department including: Fitness Center Supervisor, Women's Basketball Assistant Coach, Men's Soccer Assistant/Associate Head Coach, Men's Basketball Assistant Coach, Assistant Sports Information Director as well as instructing courses in the college's department of Sport & Exercise.
