SUNY Cobleskill Men's Soccer Drops 2-1 Decision to SUNY Canton in Double OT

Fighting Tiger Men's Soccer Falls in Double OT to SUNY Canton in NAC Action

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team opened their 2021 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) season on Saturday afternoon by dropping a hard fought 2-1 decision to the visiting Kangaroos of SUNY Canton in double overtime. The loss drops the Fighting Tigers to 0-4 overall including a 0-1 mark in league action while Canton improves to 2-3 overall on the year with a 1-1 conference record.

Trailing 1-0 in the first half the Fighting Tigers evened the score in the 16th minute when first-year forward Cater Ciavardoni, Latham, N.Y., Shaker High School, headed home a direct kick off the foot of senior midfielder Garrett Maxwell, Enfield, Conn., Suffield High School, to even the contest at 1-1.

From there the game devolved into a hard-hitting defensive battle which saw both teams battle each other and high humidity through regulation and a pair of overtime periods.

Then in the 107th minute of play Kangaroo senior forward Ellis Sanchez, Pomona, N.Y., Albertus Magnus High School, took a thru ball in the box from junior midfielder Brandon McCorriston, Welland, Ontario Canada, E.L. Crossley School, and scored the "golden goal" which ended the contest.

Cobleskill will return to action on Sunday afternoon, September 19, when they host the Privateers of SUNY Maritime for a non-league contest beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the SUNY Cobleskill Soccer/Lax Complex.
