Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision at home on Tuesday evening to the visiting Spartans of Castleton University by set scores of 26-24, 25-17 and 26-24 in non-league action. With the loss the Fighting Tigers fall to 4-14 overall on the season while Castleton improves to 5-17 on the campaign.
In the first and third sets the Fighting Tigers surrendered leads late as 14 service errors and a Spartan Defense that posted 55 digs on the evening, many turning back Cobleskill attacks after long volleys, turned the tide in favor of the visitors.
Junior outside hitter
Abigail Scheurich, Oxford, Conn., Nonnewaug High School, turned in a solid effort at the net for the Orange & Black with eight kills, six digs and a pair of solo blocks while junior libero/defensive specialist
Victoria O'Bar, Middlebury, Conn., Nonnewaug High School, went for 15 digs and two service aces on the evening. Junior setter
Kasey Orlowski, Southbury, Conn., Nonnewaug High School, was also a factor in the match with 15 assists and three digs on the night.
The Fighting Tigers will close out their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) season on Saturday October 22 when they travel to Utica, N.Y. for a conference triangular meet hosted by the Wildcats of the SUNY Polytechnic Institute. Cobleskill will meet the host Wildcats at 11:00 a.m. in the day's opening contest then take on the Broncos of SUNY Delhi at 1:00 p.m.
