Fighting Tiger Men's Soccer Posts 2-1 Senior Day Win Over Cazenovia College in NAC Action

Flanigan and DePaulo Power Fighting Tigers Past Cazenovia Wildcats on Saturday

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team celebrated "Senior Day" by closing out the regular season portion of their 2022 campaign by downing the visiting Wildcats of Cazenovia College in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action by a 2-1 margin on Saturday at the Soccer/Lacrosse Complex. With the victory the Fighting Tigers move to 2-14-2 overall on the season including a 2-7 mark in league play while the Wildcats close the year with a 3-7-3 record with a 2-5-2 record versus NAC opponents.

The Fighting Tigers struck first in the 13th minute of play when first-year midfielder Spencer Reisman, Youngstown, N.Y., Lewiston-Porter High School, hit sophomore forward Conor Flanigan, Troy, N.Y., Troy High School, on a dead run with a thru ball in the box which  Flanigan promptly deposited in the back of the Wildcats net to give the home team a 1-0 advantage at the half.

The Cobleskill advantage held up until the game's 61st minute when the Fighting Tigers failed to clear a ball in front of their goal which allowed Cazenovia sophomore forward Miruho Kandagira, Syracuse, N.Y., Henninger High School, to even the game at 1-1.

However, the Fighting Tigers would rebound from the defensive breakdown only 35 seconds later in the 62nd minute when junior forward Nicholas DePaulo, Colonie, N.Y., Colonie High School, scored the eventual game winner from close range on a pass from sophomore forward Ethan Klein, Waterford, N.Y., Shenendehowa High School.

Senior goalkeeper John Gergen, Greenville, N.Y., Greenville High School, made the lead stand-up recording five saves to send his graduating classmates off with a victory in their last home game.

Cobleskill will now await word on the scheduling for the Divisional Round of the 2022 NAC Championship Tournament which is slated to be held on Saturday October 29 and Sunday October 30 at the top seeded team's home field.
