Cobleskill Falls to Drew University in the Michael A. Freilich Tournament

Oneonta, NY:  The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball fall to Drew University, 92-60, in the Michael A. Freilich Tournament opener on Friday night. The loss puts the Fighting Tigers 1-1 on the season while Drew starts the year at 1-0.

Iziah Pigott (Brooklyn, NY/Urban Assembly) provided a spark off the bench for the Tigers and scored a team-high 12 points to lead the way for Cobleskill. Pigott went 5-12 from field as well as grabbing five rebounds and three assists.

Quanire Greene (Albany, NY/Bishop Maginn) contributed with 10 points and dished out three assists coming off the bench for Cobleskill.  Big man Markel Jenkins (Elmira, NY/Elmira) finished with a game-high two steals.

The Drew Rangers got off to a strong start in the game, taking an early 8-2 lead over the Tigers. Cobleskill battled back and after a made jumper by Andre Starks (Rochester, NY/Fairport) they found themselves within four points, 28-24, with 6:47 to play in the first half.

The Rangers turned up the pressure and used a 14-4 run to close out the first half and entered halftime with a 42-28 lead over the Tigers.

In the early goings of the second half, Drew jumped out to a 11-2 run before Starks would find Jenkins for a Tigers layup at the 16:20 mark to make it 53-32.  However, Drew extended their lead and put the game out of reach for the Tigers. The game ended 92-60.

The Tigers shot 39.3% (25-61) from the field and 30.8% (4-13) from deep.  Cobleskill struggled from the line tonight going 8-18 from the charity stripe.

Cobleskill dominated the paint outscoring Drew 38-26 in the paint, but the Rangers made the Tigers pay scoring 19 second chance points through out the game.

The Rangers had six players finish in double digits and they held the rebounding advantage over the Tigers 43-30.

The Fighting Tigers look to bounce back tomorrow at 1 pm for day two of the Michael A. Freilich Tournament hosted by SUNY Oneonta.  They will play either SUNY Oneonta or Pratt Institute.
