Men's Basketball Defeats Pratt Institute 81-65 in the Michael A. Freilich Tournament

Justin Feldman records first double-double of the season with 15 points & 11 rebounds

Oneonta, NY:  The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team defeated Pratt Institute 81-65 on Saturday afternoon at the Michael A. Freilich Tournament hosted by SUNY Oneonta.

The Tigers (2-1) had four different players in double figures.  Junior Iziah Pigott (Brooklyn, NY/Urban Assembly/Dutchess CC) finished with a game-high 19 points on 7-9 shooting from the field. Freshman Chace Peterson (Troy, NY/Troy) added a season-high 16 points and 8 rebounds.

Senior Justin Feldman (Chester, NY/Chester/ Orange CC) recorded his first double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds.  JaNyve Smith (Albany, NY/Bishop Maginn) chipped in 10 points.

In the beginning stages of the game, both teams struggled to find their groove in the contest. It was Pratt (1-2) who took an early 13-8 lead at the 14:28 mark after a made three-pointer by Julian Stoll.  They pushed their lead to 15-8 before Cobleskill started to find their footing in the contest.

At the 11:22 mark, Cobleskill took their first lead of the game, 18-17, after a fast break layup by Jeremy Rosario (Colonie, NY/Colonie).  The Tigers kept the pressure on and scored 12 unanswered points and built a 26-17 lead thanks to pair of steals from Peterson and a collective effort on the boards.

Then it was Quanire Greene (Albany, NY/Bishop Maginn) who drained a three-pointer with 5:08 to play in half to give the Tigers a 17-point lead, 36-19.  The Tigers outscored Pratt 22-2 in a span of six minutes to give them the largest lead of the game.  They closed out the half with a 43-30 lead.

Justin Feldman led the Tigers with nine points on 4-7 (57.1%) shooting.  Feldman added six rebounds.  Freshman Chace Peterson brought down a game-high seven rebounds.  The Tigers went 18-38 from the field and outrebounded Pratt 28-14.

The Tigers looked to put the game out of reach but the visitors wouldn't go down without a fight.  After a made three-pointer by Daniel Golub, the Tigers only had a 55-48 lead with 11:35 to play.  Cobleskill stepped up their offense as Pigott and Greene made back to back three-pointers to build the lead back up to 15 points, 65-50, with 8:31 to play.

The Tigers defense stopped any attempt of a Pratt comeback and Cobleskill finished the game with a 81-65 victory.

The Tigers had a very efficient game on the offensive end of the game shooting 50.8 percent from the field.  Cobleskill held the rebounding advantage 44-32 and their bench outscored Pratt's bench 41-19.

Cobleskill will be in action next on November 15th, as they host Elmira College at 7:00 PM in the Iorio Gymnasium at SUNY Cobleskill.
