Plattsburgh, NY: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team finished the Cardinal Classic with a dominate 80-73 win over SUNY Potsdam on Saturday afternoon. Cobleskill impoves to 1-2 on the season while Potsdam drops to 1-1.
The freshman duo of
Talia Washington (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) and
Emily Satterday (Latham, NY/Shaker) were a force to reckoned with all game for the Tigers. Washington finished with a game-high 20 points, four rebounds and two assists. She finished 3-3 from three point range.
Satterday recorded her third straight double-double of the season with 13 points and a season-high 21 rebounds.
Annie Canales (North Adams, Mass/Hoosac Valley) and
Audriana Hollister added 11 points each for the Tigers.
The Tigers jumped out to an early 8-4 lead over Potsdam after a made three pointer by
Annie Canales. Cobleskill remained hot from beyond the arc hitting their first three attempts and remained in front 14-10 with 5:09 remaining.  Potsdam battled back to take a brief lead 17-16 at the 2:18 mark before Cobleskill's
Talia Washington hit back to back three pointers to give the Tigers a 22-18 at the end of the quarter.
Washington led all scorers in the first quarter with 9 points on three of three shooting from three-point range. The Tigers received strong play in the paint on the offensive and defensive side from senior
Jordan Finch (East Meredith, NY/South Kortright) and freshman
Emily Satterday. Â
Both teams traded baskets in the first five minutes of the second quarter with Potsdam tying up the game 28-28 at the 3:55 mark. Washington continued to stay red hot and gave the Tigers a 32-30 after a made layup. With five seconds left, Potsdam Dyamon Hunter came up with a steal and made both her free throws to give the Bears a 35-34 lead heading into halftime.
At halftime, Washington led all scorers with 13 points on 5 of 5 shooting and a perfect 3 of 3 from deep. Satterday brought down a game high 10 rebounds and added six points. The Tigers shot 13-35 (37.1%) and 5-11 (45.5) in the half and held the rebounding advantage 26-23.
The game remained close in the beginning stages of the third quarter until back to back threes from
Megan Hughes (Warrensburgh, NY/Warrensburg) and
Annie Canales gave the Tigers a 46-38 lead at the 5:02 mark. Canales added another three to give the Tigers their first double digit lead 49-38. The Tigers headed into the final quarter leading 53-45.Â
Cobleskill kept the pressure up and pushed their lead to 65-49 after two made free throws from
Audriana Hollister (Mooers Forks, NY/Northeast Clinton). Potsdam battled back and used a 11-0 run to bring the game to 71-67 with 1:29 left in the game. Senior
Jordan Finch stepped up and made a clutch layup to give the Tigers a 75-69 lead with under a minute to play.
With 29 seconds to play, Washington iced the game with a pair of free throws that gave Cobleskill a 78-71 lead. The game finished 80-73.
The Tigers led for all but two minutes of the game. They shot 41.4 percent from the field and 56.3 percent from three-point range. They outrebounded SUNY Potsdam 49-46 and had 10 more fast break points in the contest.
Cobleskill will be back in action on November 17
th, as they travel to SUNY Oneonta for a 7:00 PM non-conference contest.
