Fighting Tiger Men's Basketball Posts Last Second 68-67 Road Victory at Mount Saint Mary's

Cobleskill Basketball Wins Road Contest at Mount Saint Mary's College 68-67


Newburgh, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team continued their winning ways in close contests returning to the road on Wednesday evening to defeat the host Blue Knights of Mount Saint Mary's College (MSMC) by a 68-67 margin in non-league action. With the victory the Fighting Tigers are now 6-2 overall on the season while the Blue Knights fall to 2-5 overall on the year. The win also was Cobleskill's third victory in one possession games this season to date.

With the Fighting Tigers trailing 67-66, junior guard Iziah Pigott, Brooklyn, N.Y., Urban Assembly High School/Dutchess Community College, rebounded his own missed jump shot and scored with 2.7 seconds left in regulation to give the visitors a 68-67 lead.

On the ensuing possession out of a time-out, the Blue Knights missed a long-range desperation three-pointer as time expired to give Cobleskill the road victory.

In an extremely evenly played contest, the Fighting Tigers out rebounded the home team by a 47-35 margin using 20 offensive rebounds to post a 26-to-9 advantage in second chance points to put the game in the win column.

The Cobleskill post players did the bulk of the damage to the Blue Knights as junior center Markel Jenkins, Elmira, N.Y., Elmira High School/Corning Community College, posted a game high of 18 points to go with eight rebounds, four assists and a blocked shot while senior forward Justin Feldman, Chester, N.Y., Chester High School/Orange Community College, registered a double/double with 13 points and 13 rebounds to go with three assists.

Sophomore swingman JaNyve Smith, Albany, N.Y., Bishop Maginn High School, continued his strong play with 11 points and three assists with Iziah Pigott, chipping in nine points, five rebounds, three assists and four steals on the evening. First-year forward Chace Peterson, Troy, N.Y., Troy High School, was also a factor in the win with seven points and four rebounds off the bench.

The Orange & Black will next be in action on Saturday November 30 when they open their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) season by hosting the Broncos of SUNY Delhi in league play with tip-off scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
