Fighting Tiger Men's Basketball Impressive in 88-75 Victory Over SUNY Delhi in NAC Opener

Andre Starks Scores 27 Points as Cobleskill Men's Basketball Downs SUNY Delhi 88-75


Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team renewed their long-standing rivalry with the SUNY Delhi Broncos in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener on Saturday afternoon by an 88-75 margin at the Iorio Gymnasium. By extending their current winning streak to three games, the Fighting Tigers move to 7-2 overall including a 1-0 record in NAC action while the Broncos fall to 5-3 overall with a 0-1 mark in conference play.

After coming back from a 10-point first half deficit to trail 36-35 at the break the Fighting Tigers exploded for 53 points in the second half to wrestle the decision from the Broncos as the Cobleskill defense held the visitors to 28-for-84 from the field, 33.3%, including 6-for-31, 19.4%, from three-point range while forcing 19 turnovers on the evening to secure the victory.

The Fighting Tiger backcourt was the catalyst to the victory as junior guard Andre Starks, Rochester, N.Y., Fairport High School/Corning Community College, scored a game high 27 points to go with six assists and five rebounds while his backcourt partner junior Iziah Pigott, Brooklyn, N.Y., Urban Assembly High School/Dutchess Community College, added 12 points, six assists, six rebounds and three steals. Sophomore swingman JaNyve Smith, Albany, N.Y., Bishop Maginn High School, was also a factor from the perimeter with 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals.

Cobleskill also received strong inside play from senior Justin Feldman, Chester, N.Y., Chester High School/Orange Community College, who scored 13 points to go with eight rebounds and three assists with junior center Markel Jenkins, Elmira, N.Y., Elmira High School/Corning Community College, scoring nine points, grabbing 11 rebounds and recording three steals. First-year forward Chace Peterson, Troy, N.Y., Troy High School, contributed key minutes in a reserve role scoring 14 points and taking down five rebounds in the win.

The Orange & Black will return to action on Tuesday December 6 when they host the Mighty Oaks of SUNY ESF at the Iorio Gymnasium in non-league play with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m.Ā
