Westfield, Mass.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team closed the 2022 portion of their schedule on a down note on Wednesday evening losing a non-conference contest to the host Owls of Westfield State University by a score of 88-70. With the loss the Fighting Tigers close the semester at 7-6 overall while the Owls improve to 7-5 on the year.
After playing their hosts to a 17-17 tie at the end of the first quarter, the Westfield pressing and trapping defense proved to be the difference in the contest as the Owls forced Cobleskill into 32 turnovers on the night which led to 28 points for the home team.
The Fighting Tigers were once again led by freshman center/forward
Emily Satterday, Latham, N.Y., Shaker High School, who recorded her team leading eighth double/double of the year with 14 points and 10 rebounds while senior center
Sierra Delaney, Ballston Spa, N.Y., Ballston Spa High School, had 12 points to go with five rebounds on the evening.
First-year guard
Talia Washington, Schenectady, N.Y., Schenectady High School, turned in a solid all-around effort with eight points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals as did senior center
Jordan Finch, East Meredith, N.Y., South Kortright High School, with eight points, four rebounds, two assists and a pair of blocked shots.
Cobleskill will next be in action after the holidays in 2023 when they return to North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Friday January 6 when they travel to Presque Isle, Maine to meet the Owls of the University of Maine-Presque Isle with tip-off at 5:30 p.m. prior to traveling to Bangor, Maine for a league meeting with the Eagles of Husson University beginning at 1:00 p.m.
