Presque Isle, Maine: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team opened the 2023 portion of their schedule on Friday evening by downing the host Owls of the University of Maine-Presque Isle (UMPI) by a 87-79 margin in a high scoring North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest. With the victory the Fighting Tigers are now 8-6 overall on the season including a 4-0 record in NAC action while the Owls fall to 5-6 overall with a 0-2 record in conference action.
In a high scoring affair that featured nine ties and eight lead changes the Fighting Tigers found themselves trailing 40-38 at the break before opening the third quarter on a 9-1 run to take a 49-41 advantage before holding off a determined Owls comeback effort which saw the home team tie the contest at 56-56 with 1:52 left in the quarter. Cobleskill then finished the frame by outscoring their hosts 3-1 to take a 59-57 lead into the fourth.
The final quarter saw both teams get hot from the field with the visitors opening the period on a 10-4 run to take a 71-62 lead from which they would never look back highlighted by three-point baskets from first-year guard

Cobleskill will close out their weekend NAC Maine road trip on Saturday January 7 when they travel to Bangor, Maine for a league meeting with the Eagles of Husson University beginning at 1:00 p.m.Ā
