SUNY Cobleskill Men's Basketball Topples SUNY ESF Mighty Oaks 84-69

Fighting Tigers Use 19 Points From Andre Starks to Cut Down SUNY ESF 84-69


Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team returned to the court on Tuesday evening to topple the Mighty Oaks of SUNY ESF by an 84-69 margin in non-conference action. With the victory the Fighting Tigers are now 8-2 overall extending their current winning streak to four games while the Mighty Oaks drop to 2-7 overall on the season.

Playing against a stubborn ESF squad that employed multiple zone defenses and a patient half court offense the Fighting Tigers countered with an efficient offensive effort connecting on 33-of-66 shots from the field, 50.0%, and 12-of-17 free throws, 70.6%, while holding a 39-28 advantage on the backboards led to the victory.

Junior guard Andre Starks, Fairport, N.Y., Fairport High School/Corning Community College, paced the Cobleskill attack with a 19-point, seven assist, four rebound effort while senior forward Justin Feldman, Chester, N.Y., Chester High School/Orange Community College, added 14 points, seven rebounds and two assists on the evening. Junior center Markel Jenkins, Elmira, N.Y., Elmira High School/Corning Community College, continued his strong play on the inside with 14 points and six rebounds with sophomore swingman JaNyve Smith, Albany, N.Y., Bishop Maginn High School, chipping in 13 points, four assists and four assists.

The Fighting Tiger bench was also a major factor in the win as sophomore guard Shelvon Grant, Brooklyn, N.Y., Poughkeepsie High School, had nine points and four rebounds in a reserve role and sophomore guard Shaun Johnson, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Poughkeepsie High School, who had five points and an assist in the win.  

The Orange & Black will return to action this weekend for a pair of North Atlantic Conference (NAC) games when they travel to Canton, N.Y. on Saturday December 10 for a meeting with the Kangaroos of SUNY Canton beginning at 3:00 p.m. prior to a trip to Johnson, Vt. on Sunday December 11 for a conference game versus the Badgers of Northern Vermont University-Johnson with tip-off scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
