Cazenovia, N.Y.: With the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play-offs fast approaching, the SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team took to the road on Wednesday evening to lose to conference rival Cazenovia College by an 89-84 margin in league action. With the loss the Fighting Tigers are now 3-17 overall with a 2-8 mark in NAC play while the Wildcats move to 8-16 overall with a 2-10 record in league play.
The Fighting Tigers struggled early on as the first half saw the road team shot an abysmal 10-of-36, 27.8%, from the field to fall behind 48-26 at the half.
After the break, the second half saw the visitors turn up the defensive pressure forcing the home team into 10 turnovers which allowed them to cut the lead to 82-78 with 1:54 remaining in regulation on a pair of free throws by first year guard
Mekhi Woodbury, White Plains, N.Y., White Plains High School.
However, Cobleskill could come no closer than four points the rest of the way as the Wildcats converted on 7-of-10 free throw opportunities to seal the victory.
Junior forward
Justin Feldman, Chester, N.Y., Chester High School/Orange Community College, scored a team high of 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds while junior forward
Naphtali Regilus, Roselle, N.J., Abraham Clark High School/Essex Community College, tallied 16 points to go with five rebounds for the visitors.
The Fighting Tigers also received an 11-point effort from
Mekhi Woodbury with fellow first year guard
Shaun Johnson, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Poughkeepsie High School, adding 10 points and three rebounds in a reserve role.
Cobleskill will next close out the regular season with a NAC road trip, meeting the Badgers of Northern Vermont University-Johnson in Johnson Vt. on Friday with tip-off at 5:30 p.m. before traveling to Canton, N.Y. for their regular season finale versus the Kangaroos of SUNY Canton beginning at 1:00 p.m.
