Fighting Tiger Baseball Posts 13-10 Non-League Road Win Over Bard College

Cobleskill Baseball Holds Off Bard College for 13-10 Road Win on Friday

Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y.: Just ahead of an impending major snowstorm the SUNY Cobleskill baseball team topped the host Raptors of Bard College by a 13-10 margin in non-league action on Friday afternoon. With the victory the Fighting Tigers move to 3-2 overall on the year while the Raptors are now 3-3 overall on the campaign.

Leading 3-2 going into the bottom of the fifth inning the Fighting Tigers erupted for eight runs in the frame highlighted by a prodigious two-run homer to dead centerfield off the bat of senior shortstop Eddy Garcia, Bronx, N.Y., Worldview High School, in the first part of the inning and a two-run double by Garcia in the latter part of the inning to extend the team's lead to 11-3.

The Cobleskill shortstop and the reigning North Atlantic Conference Player-of-the-Week, was a one-man wrecking crew at the plate going 3-for-4 on the afternoon with a home run, a double, five RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases to lead the Orange & Black to the win.

The visitors also received strong offensive contributions from junior first baseman Frank Leger, Bronx, N.Y., All Hallows High School, who was 2-for-4 with a double, and a pair of RBI and senior second baseman Christopher Kordziel, Rotterdam, N.Y., Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons High School/Hudson Valley Community College, who was 1-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and a RBI in the win.

Senior left-hander Devin Lewis, Cobleskill, N.Y., Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, went six innings allowing two earned runs on three hits striking out eight Raptor hitters while walking only one to record the victory and even his record at 1-1 on the season.

After Lewis's departure however, the Cobleskill bullpen struggled to retire Bard hitters allowing eight runs over the final three innings and forcing coach Lance Ratchford to use senior righty Jarrod Wilson, Baldwinsville, N.Y., C.W. Baker High School/Finger Lakes Community College, to get the last two outs of the contest with the tying runs on base to earn the first save of his Fighting Tiger career in order to preserve the win.

The Fighting Tigers are tentatively scheduled to play the Gators of Russell Sage College on Wednesday March 16 at SUNY Oneonta's Red Dragon Baseball Field for a non-league doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
