Davenport, Fla.: The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team opened their 2022 spring break trip with a split versus the Ephs of Williams College on Sunday afternoon losing the opener 8-1 then winning the nightcap in walk-off fashion by a 7-6 margin at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational in games played at Northeast Regional Park. With the blank the Fighting Tigers are now 5-4 overall while Williams moves to 2-1 on the season to date.
In their first game of the trip the Fighting Tigers were blitzed by the Ephs early as Williams jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never looked back.
First-year centerfielder
Trevor Grieb, Red Hook, N.Y., Red Hook High School, went 2-for-4 from the lead-off spot with a run scored while senior shortstop
Eddy Garcia, Bronx, N.Y., World View High School, drove in the team's lone run going 1-for-3 with a double.
The second game was tied at 6-6 heading into the bottom half of the seventh inning when
Eddy Garcia led off with a double for his third extra base hit of the contest. Garcia then advanced to third on an errant Williams pick-off attempt and scored the winning run when sophomore right fielder
Connor Maxwell, Newport, N.Y., West Canada High School, lifted a deep sacrifice fly to center field to score Garcia and give the Orange & Black the victory along with their first victory over a NESCAC program.
Garcia once again was the catalyst to the victory going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, two runs scored and three runs batted in while Maxwell drove in three runs with an infield out and a pair of sacrifice flies. First year left fielder
Zach Ducorsky, Oceanside, N.Y., Oceanside High School, was also a factor in the win going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a pair of stolen bases.
