Fighting Tiger Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Hamilton College at 2022 RussMatt College Invitational

Cobleskill Baseball Swept by Hamilton College at 2022 RussMatt College Invitational

Auburndale, Florida: The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team continued their Florida spring break trip on Wednesday dropping a doubleheader played at the Lake Myrtle Sports Park Main Field to the Continentals of Hamilton College as part of the 2022 RussMatt College Baseball Invitational lost the first game by a score of 12-5 then falling in extra innings of the finale 7-6. With the losses the Fighting Tigers are now 6-8 overall on the season while the Continentals move to 8-5 overall.

In the opener the Continentals jumped out to a 10-1 advantage after three innings and never looked back as a combination of 14 Hamilton hits and five Fighting Tiger errors led to the victory.

First year centerfielder Zach Durcorsky, Oceanside, N.Y., Oceanside High School, had a big first game at the plate for the Orange & Black going 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored, a stolen base and a RBI while senior second baseman Chris Kordziel, Rotterdam, N.Y., Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons High School/Hudson Valley Community College, went 2-for-4, with a pair of stolen bases, a run scored and a RBI from the lead-off spot.

In the nightcap Cobleskill held leads of 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh and 6-5 going into the bottom of the ninth which the Fighting Tiger bullpen could not hold as the Continentals capitalized on a pair of walks and a hit batter in the bottom of the ninth to post the walk-off victory.

Once again senior second baseman Chris Kordziel continued to shine offensively for the Orange & Black going 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored while senior designated hitter Samuel Gutierrez, Bayside, N.Y., Martin Van Buren High School/Queensborough Community College, went 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles and a RBI.

The Fighting Tigers will close out their Florida swing on Thursday March 24 when they meet the Scots of Wooster College for a solo contest beginning at 12:00 p.m.
