Hackettstown, N.J.: The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team closed out their weekend road trip to New Jersey on Saturday by splitting a doubleheader versus host Centenary University at the Cyclones Our Diamond of Dreams in non-league action dropping the first game by a score of 12-2 then pounding their hosts in the nightcap by a 19-2 margin. With the split the Fighting Tigers are now 2-2 overall on the season while the Cyclones fall to 2-4 overall on the year.
In the first game the Fighting Tigers trailed 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning when the Cyclone offense came alive and over the next two innings ripped through the Cobleskill bullpen for 10 runs to secure the victory.
Offensively Cobleskill received strong outings from senior designated hitter
Samuel Gutierrez, Bayside, N.Y., N.Y., Martin Van Buren High School/Queensborough Community College, who went 2-for-2 at the plate with a walk, a single, a double and both of the team's RBI and from senior shortstop
Eddy Garcia, Bronx, N.Y., World View High School, who was 2-for-3 with a stolen base and two runs scored. Sophomore outfielder
Connor Maxwell, Newport, N.Y., West Canada High School, also had a good outing with the bat going 2-for-3 in the game.Â
In the nightcap it was the Fighting Tiger upperclassmen who decided to flex their offensive muscles as Cobleskill pounded out 20 hits against Cyclone pitchers on their way to the 19-run outburst.
Playing in right field,
Samuel Gutierrez led the team's hitting assault going 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple, a double and a walk to produce four RBI and three runs scored while shortstop
Eddy Garcia continued his hot streak at the plate going 3-for-4 with a homer three RBI and a pair of runs scored with junior first baseman
Frank Leger, Bronx, N.Y., All Hallows High School, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. First year centerfielder

The Orange & Black will return to action on Saturday March 12 when they travel to Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. for a pair of non-conference contests versus the Raptors of Bard College beginning at 12:00 p.m.
