Fighting Tiger Baseball Downs Cazenovia College Wildcats 6-1 in NAC Action

Cobleskill Baseball Runs Winning Streak to Ten Games With Home Win Over Cazenovia

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team extended their current winning streak to 10 games on Monday afternoon downing the visiting Wildcats of Cazenovia College in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action by a 6-1 margin at Fighting Tiger Field. With the victory the Fighting Tigers are now 17-11 overall on the season including an 8-0 record in league action while the Wildcats fall to 7-18 overall with a 2-6 record in NAC play.

The Fighting Tigers broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth inning when they scored four runs highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of senior shortstop Eddy Garcia, Bronx, N.Y., World View High School, followed by an RBI single from junior right fielder Samuel Gutierrez, Bayside, N.Y., Martin Van Buren High School/Queensborough Community College, which gave the Orange & Black the 6-1 win.

The Cobleskill senior class once again led the way to victory as Eddy Garcia went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, three RBI, a run scored and a stolen base, Samuel Gutierrez was 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, an RBI and a run scored while senior second baseman Christopher Kordziel, Rotterdam, N.Y., Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons High School/Hudson Valley Community College went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, a stolen base and an RBI on the afternoon.

First year catcher Logan Hutter, Smithtown, N.Y., Smithtown West High School, was also a factor in the game going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Junior pitcher Wyatt Palmer, Camden, N.Y., Camden High School/Cayuga Community College, went six innings allowing an earned run on five hits while striking out three and walking only one to improve to 5-1 overall on the season.

Cobleskill's originally scheduled doubleheader versus Cazenovia College at the Wildcats home field on Tuesday April 19 has been postponed due to the threat of inclement weather in the region so the Fighting Tigers are next tentatively schedule to travel to Factoryville, Pa. for a non-conference meeting with Keystone College beginning at 3:30 p.m. weather permitting.
