Fighting Tiger Softball Swept at Home by Russell Sage 8-5 & 11-3 on Wednesday

Cobleskill Softball Drops Non-League Doubleheader to Russell Sage 8-5 & 11-3

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's softball team continued their extended home stand on Wednesday afternoon dropping a pair of games to the visiting Gators of Russell Sage College by scores of 8-5 and 11-3 in non-league action at Fighting Tiger Park. With the losses Cobleskill falls to 2-12 overall on the season to date while the Gators improve to 6-11 overall on the year.

After falling behind 8-2 after five innings in the first game, the Fighting Tigers rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth but that was as close as the home team could come as the close the game out with a scoreless seventh to secure the victory.
Once again sophomore first baseman Alexis Miranda, Nashua, N.H., Nashua High School, provided offensive firepower for Cobleskill going 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and a pair of RBI while junior catcher Ashley Covert, Castile, N.Y., Letchworth High School, went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored with senior centerfielder Jillian Nitchman, Ballston Spa, N.Y., Ballston Spa High School, going 2-for-4 with a run scored.

In the second game three errors and a series of defensive miscues cost the Fighting Tigers four unearned runs and led to several other scores for the Gators to decide the issue.

In the second game centerfielder Jillian Nitchman was once again impressive going 2-for-3 with a stolen base and two runs scored with senior shortstop Maya Davies, Binghamton, N.Y., Chenango Valley High School/Onondaga Community College, going 2-for-3 with a double and a RBI. First year pitcher Olivia DeMott, Sidney, N.Y., Sidney High School, also turned in a solid effort at the plate going 2-for-2 at the plate with a double and a RBI.

Cobleskill will next be in action when they open the 2022 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) season at home over the weekend versus the Wildcats of the SUNY Polytechnic Institute with a solo game on Friday April 8 beginning at 4:00 p.m. followed by a doubleheader on Saturday April 9 beginning at 12:00 p.m.
