Fighting Tiger Baseball Opens 2022 NAC Championship Tournament With 23-4 Win Over Thomas College

Cobleskill Baseball Downs Thomas College 23-4 in NAC Tourney Opening Round


Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team struck early and often in the opening round of the 2022 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship Tournament on Sunday afternoon posting a 23-4 victory over the Terriers of Thomas College in a game hosted by the Fighting Tigers at their campus Fighting Tiger Field. With the victory Cobleskill improves to 21-18 overall on the year while Thomas drops to 15-24.

The host NAC Western Division Champions got the ball rolling in the first inning when sophomore third baseman David Flora, Windsor, N.Y., Windsor High School/Herkimer Community College, blasted a first-pitch home run over the left field fence as part of a 4-for-6 effort that saw score three runs scored to go with two RBI as the home team tallied 14 runs over the first three innings to secure the victory pounding out 20 hits along the way.

Senior right fielder Samuel Guitierrez, Bayside, N.Y., Martin Van Buren High School/Queensborough Community College, had a big day with the bat going 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, three runs scored and four RBI while junior first baseman Frank Leger, Bronx, N.Y., All Hallows High School, went 3-for-3 with a triple three runs scored and three RBI.

The Orange & Black also received strong offensive efforts from first year center fielder Zach Ducorsky, Oceanside, N.Y., Oceanside High School, who went 3-for-6 with two stolen bases, three runs scored and two RBI, first year left field Trevor Grieb, Red Hook, N.Y., Red Hook High School, who was 2-for-5 with a triple, two RBI and a run scored and from senior shortstop Eddy Garcia, Bronx, N.Y., World View High School, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, four runs scored and an RBI.

With an abundance of offensive support junior right hander Wyatt Palmer, Camden, N.Y., Camden High School/Cayuga Community College, held the Terriers in check going seven innings allowing three earned runs on five hits striking out six and walking two to run his record to 7-2 on the year.

The Fighting Tigers will next meet the Eagles of Husson University in a battle of divisional champions on Monday, May 9, at Fighting Tiger Field with first pitch scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
