Delhi, NY: The Cobleskill women's volleyball team drops their first conference game of the season to SUNY Delhi 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-15) on Thursday night.
The Tigers jumped out to an early 3-2 lead in the first set, but the Broncos battled back to regain the lead 6-3. The hosts never looked back from that moment and used a 6-0 run to take the first set 25-17 over Cobleskill.
Delhi continued their momentum from the first set to gain a 7-2 lead over the Tigers in the second set. Timely kills by
Alexis Miranda (Nashua, NH) and
MacKenzie Larson (Winterset, IA) gave the visitors their own 7-3 run to pull the game to within a point, 10-9. The Broncos battled back with an unanswered four-point swing that gave the hosts all the separation they needed. Delhi would go on to take the second set, 25-18.
Cobleskill exchanged blows with the Broncos early in the third set. With the score tied 5-5, Delhi's power proven too much for the Tigers as they would go on a 16-3 run to put the game to bed. Delhi took the final set, 25-15.
Miranda led the Tigers with eight kills.
Kasey Orlowski (Hewitt, NJ) had a team high 14 assists and added three digs for the visitors. Libero
Victoria O'Bar (Middlebury, Conn.) ended the game with a team high 13 digs for Cobleskill.
Delhi (5-5) was led by Stephanie Burke's game high 16 kills. Jaiden Venute led all players with 34 assists in the game.
The Tigers (1-10) finished the game with 17 kills compared Delhi's 38. They added 17 assists, five aces and 42 digs compared to the Broncos 50 digs.
Cobleskill will look to bounce back on Friday, September 30
th, as they travel to SUNY Canton for a 6:30 p.m. conference match.
