Canton, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's volleyball team took to the road on Friday evening to end a 10-game losing streak as the Fighting Tigers downed the host Kangaroos of SUNY Canton 3-1 by set scores of 10-25, 25-9, 26-24 and 25-19 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) meeting. With the win Cobleskill improves to 2-10 overall on the year including a 1-1 record in conference play while Canton is now 3-10 overall with a 2-1 mark versus NAC opponents.
The Fighting Tigers showed the effects of travel in the opening game losing a 25-10 decision to the home team then roaring back to take the second set 25-9 to even the match at 1-1.
Cobleskill then staged an impressive third set comeback as Canton jumped out to a 14-7 early lead and held a 24-21 lead late in the contest before the Fighting Tigers went on 5-0 run to close out the set as first-year libero
Lydia McDonough, Wappingers Falls, N.Y., John Jay High School, served the last four points of the match, assisting on two of the kills then closing out the set with a service ace.
The visitors put the match in the win column in the fourth set as the Cobleskill front line pounded out 16 kills to go with a pair of blocks to decide the issue.
Junior outside hitter
Alexis Miranda, Nashua, N.H., Nashua North High School, led the way for the Orange & Black with a team high of 22 kills on the evening while junior outside hitter
MacKenzie Larson, Winterset, Iowa, Winterset High School, went for 12 kills, 17 digs and five service aces on the evening. Junior setter
Kasey Orlowski, Hewitt, N.J., Milford High School, was also a factor in the match with 18 assists and three digs as was first-year setter
Jade Ward, Miami, Fla., Felix Varela High School, who notched 18 assists and eight digs with
Lydia McDonough contributing 16 digs, four assists and three aces to the victory totals.
Cobleskill will return to action on Sunday October 2 when they travel to Cazenovia, N.Y. to meet the Wildcats of Cazenovia College for a NAC match-up with first serve at 1:00 p.m.
