Throggs Neck, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team took to the road for the first time during the 2022 season on Saturday dropping a 1-0 decision on a late penalty kick to the host Privateers of the SUNY Maritime College in non-league action. With the loss the Fighting Tigers fall to 0-2 overall on the campaign while the Privateers even their overall season mark at 1-1.
The teams were locked in a 0-0 defensive struggle late in the second half when in the 72
nd minute Privateer senior forward Thomas Luongo, Center Moriches, N.Y., Center Moriches High School, converted on a penalty kick to give Maritime a 1-0 advantage.
The Fighting Tigers immediately went on the attack and in the 89
th minute with only 36 seconds left to play junior midfielder Cater Ciavardoni, Latham, N.Y., Shaker High School, broke into the open and unleashed a blast which hit the weakside post allowing the home team to clear the ball and secure the victory.
Cobleskill will next be in action on Wednesday September 7 when they travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. for a non-league meeting with the host Brewers of Vassar College with kick-off slated for 4:00 p.m.
