Fighting Tiger Women's Volleyball Extends Winning Streak to Three Games With Victory Over VTSU-Castleton

SUNY Cobleskill Women's Volleyball Tops Castleton Spartans 3-1 in Non-League Contest


Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's volleyball team returned to the friendly confines of the Iorio Gymnasium on Wednesday evening to defeat the visiting Spartans of Vermont State University (VTSU)-Castleton by a 3-1 tally by set scores of 25-19, 20-25, 25-23 and 25-22 in non-league action. With the victory the Fighting Tigers improve to 11-13 overall on the season to date while the Spartans fall to 6-13 on the campaign.

The Fighting Tigers pounded out 56 kills on the evening to go with 10 service aces to extend their current winning streak to three games.
The Cobleskill attack was anchored at the net by the tandem of senior middle hitter/outside hitter Alexis Miranda, Nashua, N.H., Nashua North High School, who put down a match high of 19 kills along with three digs and two service aces and first-year opposite side hitter Kathleen Smart, Nashville, Tenn., Pope John Paul II Prep, who had a season high of 13 kills and 16 digs on the night. First-year outside hitter Emma Hinze, Altenburg, Mo., Saxon Lutheran High School, was also a factor on the front line with nine kills and five digs.

Sophomore setter Baylee Kirschberg, Lindenhurst, N.Y., Lindenhurst High School, proved to be the catalyst for the home team throughout the match filling up the stat sheet with 23 assists, six digs, five kills and three service aces while sophomore Lydia McDonough, Wappinger Falls, N.Y., John Jay High School, added 21 digs, five assists and four service aces.

The Orange & Black will next be in action on Saturday October 28 when they close out the home portion of their 2023 schedule by hosting a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Triangular Match versus the Mustangs of Morrisville State College and the Kangaroos of SUNY Canton.

The Fighting Tigers will open the event at 11:00 a.m. versus the Morrisville Mustangs followed by a 3:00 p.m. contest versus the Canton Kangaroos.
